WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION?
"Personal information" is personally identifiable information about an individual, as defined by privacy laws applicable to SMI. Personal information may include your residential address, an e-mail address that includes your name, information about your product and service subscriptions and usage that is linked to you personally, credit information and billing records, service and recorded complaints.

COLLECTION AND USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
SMI, its agents, and its service providers collect and use your personal information primarily for the purpose of providing you with the products and services you have requested from SMI.

In addition to the purposes described above, SMI and its agents and service providers may collect, use and/or disclose personal information for the following purposes:
  1. to consider whether SMI should establish or continue a commercial relationship, including without limitation, to extend credit, evaluate credit standing, to match and provide credit information to credit bureaus and credit reporting agencies, to check references and to confer with banking institutions;
  2. to establish and maintain commercial relations with customers, investors, shareholders, suppliers, financial institutions, insurers, and affiliates, and to provide ongoing products and services, administer accounts, facilitate deliveries, make and receive payments, and fulfill contractual obligations;
  3. to understand and respond to the inquiries, needs and preferences of our customers, website visitors and other individuals, including to communicate and to conduct research and surveys;
  4. to administer contests and promotions offered SMI, including to use winner names and selected other information for the purposes of contacting, announcing and promoting the winners of the contest;
  5. to distribute newsletters, press releases, promotional information and other material to individuals, in any format or media, including via third party mailing houses;
  6. to develop, enhance, market, sell, provide, and inform individuals of, the products and services of SMI, companies affiliated with SMI ("Affiliates"), and parties with whom SMI has a commercial relationship. SMI may also disclose certain personal information (such as name, email address, and relationship to SMI) to the foregoing parties to enable those parties to communicate with the individual, including for marketing and advertising purposes;
  7. to monitor communications to ensure the quality of the products and services of SMI, its Affiliates, suppliers, distributors and other parties;
  8. to detect and protect SMI and other parties against error, negligence, breach of contract, theft, fraud and other illegal activity, to comply with SMI audit requirements, and to audit compliance with SMI corporate policies, procedures, laws and contractual obligations;
  9. to engage in due diligence and carry out business transactions that may involve the sale or transfer of personal information, including the purchase, sale, lease, merger, amalgamation or any other type of acquisition, disposal, securitization or financing involving SMI;
  10. as permitted by, and to comply with, any laws or regulations; and
  11. for any other purpose to which an individual consents.
Subject to legal and contractual requirements, you can refuse to consent to our collection, use or disclosure of personal information about you. You may also withdraw your consent at any time by giving us reasonable notice and subject to legal and contractual requirements; however such withdrawal may affect the products and services which we can provide to you.

SECURITY
Physical, technological and administrative security measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information, such as locked cabinets, restricted access and the use of passwords and encryption, have been adopted to protect your personal information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

ACCESS, QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS
If you have any questions or concerns, or if you simply want to know whether we have any of your personal information on file, you may contact a Privacy Compliance Officer at the contact information provided below. Except in limited circumstances as set out in applicable privacy laws, SMI can tell you whether it holds personal information about you. It will use reasonable efforts to tell you the source of the information, allow you access to your personal information, and give an account of the use that has been made or is being made of the information and the parties to whom it has been disclosed. If you are not satisfied with the response from a Privacy Compliance Officer after making a complaint, you may have recourse to additional remedies under applicable privacy laws.
